The role of the Mold Tech is to assist the Mold Manager and to ensure that the molds and fixtures are in good operating condition at all times.
The applicant would be required to do a variety of tasks such as disassemble, assemble clean, repair, and replace mold components and perform preventative maintenance on molds. Use basic toolroom equipment such as milling machine, surface grinder, EDM, lathe etc. to fabricate and repair common mold components such as ejector pins and core pins.
Conducts all mold preventive maintenance activities by disassembling, cleaning and assembling molds
Ability to operate basic tool room equipment (milling machine, surface grinder, lathe, EDM sinker)
Conduct repairs, modifications and improvements to molds as required
Through knowledge of mold components
Follow and complete mold maintenance and repair Work Orders. Responsible for good housekeeping (5S practices) and keeping the department clean and well organized.
Assists to monitor the production schedule for upcoming tooling requirements.
Tests proper water seal and flow through mold.
Perform mold configuration duties by changing inserts as directed and report visual defects to supervisor
Dissemble molds and remove all cavity and core blocks to complete the “clean to inspect” process.
Experience operating an overhead crane and following proper storage measures.
Maintain mold history and servicing records
Performs other duties as may be periodically assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & SKILLS:
Education: High School diploma or GED, Associates Degree or Vocational Certification is highly preferred
Fundamental knowledge of tooling to the plastics industry
Measuring skills with micrometer, caliper, bore gauges etc.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in tool room environment within injection molding/plastics experience preferred
Capable of reading and understanding basic Engineering drawings
Must be capable of lifting and handling 50 pound mold components
Ability to operate tool room equipment (milling, machine, surface grinder, lathe) proficiently
Experience in plastic processing, plastic materials, or mold setting a plus.
Must be knowledgeable of CAM software packages to generate geometry and tool paths a plus
